The US And Iran Conflict Affecting the US Economy And Politics

The US-Iran war

What is going on about the US-Iran war?

The US-Iran war is creating a consistent problem for the American economy. It is causing an increase in energy prices. It is also putting pressure on the presidency of Donald Trump. It initially began as a military confrontation, but it developed into a major economic issue, affecting fuel prices, transportation, and financial markets.

According to the report of AP (Associated Press) in October 2026, the conflict has been ongoing for months. There was an attempt to resolve the conflict, but the attempt to reach a lasting agreement was uncertain. Pakistan entered this conflict as a mediator to get the leadership of both nations into a peaceful agreement, but the attempt was unsuccessful. No result came out of these attempts.

The US government has increased pressure on Iran. Iran’s politics are facing a lot of pressure in terms of sanctions and economic defaults. But on the other hand, the US economy, households, and businesses are also facing problems, which are unavoidable.

Why is the US-Iran war still continuing?

The US-Iran war has become a major international issue, where both sides’ demands are difficult to negotiate.

According to the Associated Press, the US government has used military power, sanctions, and blocked Iran’s oil exports through naval routes. Trump government has sought to limit Iran’s ability ot export oil. Additionally, the US government aslo has also tried to contain Iran’s nuclear programme and restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, however, is demanding such things that are difficult for the United States to negotiate on. Iran demands that the US lift its blockade and provide sanctions relief before the lasting agreements. Iranian officials are also concerned that the agreement does not confirm the stopping of military intervention by the United States. They do not believe that, even after the negotiations, the US will not interfere in the Middle East through its military.

There was a temporary agreement for a ceasefire of 60 days in June 2026. This attempt provided a wider framework for peaceful negotiation in the future. However, the negotiations broke down, and there was again a war initiated over the Strait of Hormuz problem.

October 8, Trump said that the US will continue military strikes on Iran before the November 3 midterm elections. He also said that the ongoing discussions with the Iranian officials are very productive. But still, both sides are disagreeing on negotiations that can bring the conflict to an end.

The problem of rising oil prices in the US

After the US-Iran war started, there was a direct effect on oil prices all over the world. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most strategic locations in the world. It is a shipping route for oil transport in the Persian Gulf for the whole world. Before the US-Iran war, about one-fifth of the world’s oil was transported through this route.

The disruption of the route has created certain problems for oil transport and energy companies all over the world. Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz after the initiation of the war. However, the US military has managed to allow some of the oil ships through the Strait of Hormuz, but transport is still below the previous level.

This has created the problem of high oil prices in the world, especially in the US market. US consumers are facing the problem of high oil prices, high prices of everyday products, and high prices of transport. The profits of US transport are going down, and consumers are paying high prices.

This cost is affecting those who are already facing inflationary problems. Households are spending more on groceries and other essential items. It leaves them no choice but to spend their savings as well. After all, whenever a war is initiated, the most affected people are the middle- and low-income classes
